This indicators report evaluates existing conditions and makes recommendations to improve equity in our region.
PolicyLink and the Program for Environmental and Regional Equity (PERE), both technical assistance providers for the federal Partnership for Sustainable Communities program, worked with the Coordinating Committee to ensure Our Great Region 2040 considers equity issues throughout our region.
PolicyLink and PERE developed An Equity Profile of the Houston-Galveston Region. According to the report, "Equity - ensuring full inclusion of the entire region's residents in the economic, social, and political life of the region, regardless of race, ethnicity, age, gender, neighborhood of residence, or other characteristic - is essential for creating successful plans."
Recommendations of the report include bridging the racial generation gap, connecting unemployed and low-wage workers to careers in high-growth industries, identifying educational pathways, creating healthier communities, and expanding transportation choices and mobility.
